Sunny classes

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

For 26 years, I lived in a city as hot as hell. Not only does the sun shine there 365 days a year but  the temperature also goes up to 45 degrees between the months of August and December. Therefore, I’ve  never been what you might call a “summer person”. I could never understand what the fuss was all about when the hottest season of the year was approaching. Maybe that’s why I decided to come to London in the middle of the winter. I was absolutely thrilled feeling the temperature getting close to zero. I’m not joking when I say I had lots of fun.

Well, I’ve been living here for more than a year. So it’s the second time I can see spring coming. And I never thought I would be so delighted about it. It’s good to leave home not wearing layers and layers  of clothes. It reminds me of last summer when I used to go to  Holland Park with friends for a good chat, some drinks and nibbles after class.

Now I totally understand why our Young Learners’ Summer Course is so popular. Lots of students come every year to study English with us for two months. We even have lots of Spanish students who leave that sunny land to spend some time in London. That means something.

All right, I admit: I think I’m a summer person now.

Spring!

Monday, April 6th, 2009

In my opinion, the best time of the year to study English here in London. There’s an air of optimism in the streets, and the cold of winter is disappearing, making sitting in the park and learning English from your ‘English Grammar in Use’ book perfectly possible. So come and study English with us here in London!

Cheap courses, Dear teachers!!!!

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

If you are looking for a cheap English course with quality teachers you found!!!At the English Studio you can have dear teachers at a budget price!I don’t know all the teachers but the ones I do are simply fantastic.

Zac was my first teacher in the school and I have to say that his sense of humour and dynamic classes helped me to learn English faster.

John is a legend and a very good story –teller in a positive way. Vicky is full of energy and very communicative which makes the English lessons soooo interesting! Sean is the party man, I had only couple of classes with him enough to have a very good impression…

At the English Studio learning English is a continuous process with a combination of speaking, listening, writing skills, reading and even singing as Mike mentioned previously.

I just got my CAE certificate and without a doubt these teachers were part of that!

It is a priceless experience you must have!!!

Take Care and see you around!!

English language schools in London only teach you to learn English, but can they teach you to Sing English?

Saturday, April 4th, 2009

As part of your English language course, it’s essential for you to enjoy your English lessons; something that we at the English studio are proud to say we  help students do on a daily basis – and I don’t think every language school in London can say that. Many people who study English find the pronunciation to be the most difficult aspect, especially in a spoken English  training course. I agree, but in my sixteen years of teaching, I’ve found that singing makes pronunciation a lot easier. Explaining precisely why this is so would be very technical  and brainmeltingly boring, so, if it’s ok with you, I shan’t bother.

What I would like to tell you about is our Singalong night last week. It was as close to perfect as you could imagine..Everyone had a drink, but nobody got awfully drunk (there’s nothing more boring than a drunk at a party) there was an absolutely lovely bunch of English Studio students from past and present and….. the music! Oh, the music was superb- and before you think I’m getting a big head, I’d like to clarify that I’m referring to the night’s guest musicians: The Genius Martin Pauvert on piano and guitar, the golden-voiced chanteuse The Lord (and ladies!) of the Sing(along)Pauline and of course the ludicrously gifted Dorjiana, whose ability to play the notoriously difficult piano part from Bowie’s Life on Mars had me purring with pleasure! The three of them actually brought everyone close to tears with their flawless rendition of CSN’s Helplessly Hoping

And how could I possibly omit Ken? The man’s as cool as Keith Richards (Without the  leathery skin, alcoholism and drug addiction, obviously) and plays a mean blues guitar.

The setting helped too: the cafe is so cool and elegant, it felt like some Parisian 19th century salon, which made a welcome change from room U1A in Uxbridge Road! If all that weren’t enough the garden was the icing on the cake….

We’ll be having more singalong nights, that’s for sure. Silvia and I will be organising some summer parties there too, so keep your eyes on the Social Programme for details.

Thinking of extending your English course?

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

Hi guys,

This is just a quick reminder to all students who have visas. If you are going to extend your visa and continue studying here at The English Studio, you need to get the new application form from reception.  There are lots of new boring rules and regulations with this application form so make sure you read it carefully.

You can get and updated list from reception which tells you everything you need for the new application.

Please remember that you MUST bring your documents to reception at least 4 weeks before your visa expires. This gives us time to check your application and let you know if you need to change anything.

Please also remember that we only provide a “checking service” and we legally cannot complete the form for you.

If you have any questions about the new form, you can send an email to stuart@the-englishstudio.com and I’ll get back to you within 24 hours.

That’s all for now
