There I was last Saturday treating myself to one or two little purchases on iTunes (Low & Station to Station by Mr. D Bowie, if you must know) It was a sunny day and everything was right in the world:tra la la.

Albums downloaded, I plugged in my iPod in order to load up my haul. ‘Syncing iPod Do not disconnect,’ – that’s what my iTunes told me. ‘Fine,’ I thought. ‘Good to be up to date. Synced. Yes, that’s nice.’

More perceptive readers will now be guessing where this is going…..Yes, the 12,779 songs I’d rapaciously hoarded onto my iPod, involving many visits to friends’ houses marred  to the point of relationship breakdown by my going,’ Um, do you mind  if I download a few choons,’ and then ignoring my hosts  even as they politely said, ‘Mike, the dinner’s going cold,’ had been irretrievably replaced by the piffling 400 songs on my laptop.

How do I feel? I feel like on Friday night I went to bed having driven my Ferrari along the Pacific Highway in California and the following day I had to trek through the Arctic on donkey.

That’s how I feel….I’m sure there are positives in this, I’m sure I’ll have realised what those positives are by this time next week. I hope I will…For the moment all I feel is the numbness of bereavement.Well, I call it numbness, but it feels like pain. normal service will be resumed after a suitable period of mourning has elapsed.
