Questions about studying English in London?

Find answers about course prices, start dates, booking, visas, accommodation and studying with The English Studio.

How much does an English course in London cost?

The price of your English course depends on the type of course you choose, how many weeks you study, and what time of day you study. Afternoon courses are generally cheaper than morning courses, and the weekly price decreases for longer courses. Use our course price calculator to see exactly how much your course will cost.

When can I start my English course?

You can start your English course at any time of year, with new students able to start every Monday. On your first day, your teachers will assess your level and discuss what you want to achieve from your course. If you can’t start on a Monday, please contact us and we’ll do our best to arrange an alternative start day.

How far in advance do I need to book?

You can book your English course up to a year in advance—or as late as the day you want to start. We have a wide range of classes and levels, so we can usually find a place for you, even at short notice.

How do I pay?

You’ll need to pay your course fees in full before your course starts.

If you book with us online, we’ll ask you to pay the full amount when you book. If you book in person at the school, you can pay a deposit and then pay the remaining balance before your course begins.

You can pay by debit card, credit card or international bank transfer. Once we receive your payment, our team will send you confirmation along with all the pre-arrival information you’ll need.

Booking through an overseas partner

If you apply through one of our trusted overseas partners, you can make your payment directly to them. They can also help you plan your stay in London and, if required, support you with your visa application.

If you need a visa to study in the UK, we’ll ask you to pay a deposit before we issue the documents you need for your visa application.

What type of visa will I need?

The immigration permission you need depends on your nationality and how long you plan to study.

If your English course lasts 6 months or less, you can study in the UK as a visitor. Depending on your nationality, you may need a Standard Visitor visa or an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before you travel.

If you are studying English for more than 6 months and up to 11 months, you will normally need a Short-term Study visa.

Visa and immigration requirements vary by nationality, so we recommend checking the latest UK government guidance before you travel.

What qualifications do the teachers have?

All our teachers are graduates and hold a recognised English language teaching qualification, with a minimum of Cambridge CELTA or Trinity CertTESOL.

Our teachers also bring a wealth of international teaching experience to the classroom—ask them where they’ve taught; they may well have worked in your country.

What happens if I cancel my English course? Will I get a refund?

If you need to cancel your course, you may be entitled to a refund depending on when you cancel. The amount refunded will depend on how much notice you give us. Different conditions apply if your visa application is refused.

Please see our Booking Terms & Conditions for full details.
