Best ways to learn English

Everyone has a different best way to remember things. Some of us learn better when things are being explained to us verbally, others by reading, or you might find that watching things can help you associate words with images which in turn can help you learn things. Like everything else, there is no secret recipe for learning English, but there are many things you can do to improve your English vocabulary, grammar or pronunciation.

Learn one English word per day

One simple way to improve your English vocabulary is by learning a new word every day and using it in a sentence to make sure you remember it. You can make learning a fun game by randomly opening your dictionary and placing your finger on a word with your eyes closed. If you don’t own a dictionary and you prefer using your phone, you can download apps like Wordbook, Word a day, or Dictionary.com. Apps are good for learning new words because they provide audio pronunciations.

Read books or blogs

If you want to learn English grammar and vocabulary and enjoy a nice story at the same time, there is nothing like reading an English novel to help you improve your fluency. Some of the easiest books to read for learners of the English language are: Animal Farm (George Orwell) , Lord of the Flies (William Holding), The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time (Mark Haddon), A Thousand Splendid Suns (Khaled Hosseini), The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (Arthur Conan Doyle), and many more.

Watch movies without subtitles

Watching lots of movies is a really good excuse for learning English. If so far, you’ve been watching movies with subtitles or dubbed in your own language, it might be a good idea to start watching them in English. Watch Hollywood movies if you’re a fan of American English and British films if you want to work on your British accent.

Take an English course

The most effective way to learn English is, of course, taking an English course. Having a teacher, a schedule and regular tests or exams will help you improve your English faster than anything else. When you are studying English at The English Studio, our diligent, committed and passionate teachers will make sure you are progressing at the right level so you can become a fluent speaker very soon.
